Octopus Go New Tariffs

Morning all

Has anyone else received their renewal from Octopus?

The energy squeeze has really hit home !
Go night time tariff increased from 5p to 17.6p
Daytime from 13.8p to 30.57p
Costs may vary by area of course !

Triple the cost (night time tariff) to run EV and virtually the same per week as my previous ICE.

Will consider my order for second EV as on purely daily fuel cost the difference is not as clear cut !

Are we all seeing similar?

Wow! I’m fixed until 22 Aug 22 OctopusEnergy Go. Not looking forward to that. Fortunately Tesco end of my road. Car expected in April.

Where do you get that night time tariff from? The website is still telling me 5p. Are you sure you weren't looking at the daily standing charge (in my area the website gives that as 17.75p, the day rate as 25.xx p and the night rate as 5p.)
I was moved to Octopus from Avro and was planning to switch to Go after we get our EV, if I calculate it will save us money (at the 5p rate it is marginal depending on our mileage, as our day time home energy usage is high.) Anyway, I hope what you wrote above is wrong...

From https://octopus.energy/go/rates/ a moment ago for my home postcode:

So it may be that your postcode is particularly “ouch” compared. I’m particularly puzzled by the ~17p “cheap” rate, when 5p/kWh for Go is splashed all over their website.

Broadly similar to sidehaas & utomno here.

Worth adding that I am currently on a legacy Go tariff until April, and am not looking forward to our daytime electricity approximately doubling in cost (or more!) at that point. So I feel the OP’s pain, slightly delayed :

That’s very weird. I’m with Octopus but not no Go yet, I’m on the Avro tariff as I got moved over when my supplier went bust. If I start the process of switching to Go then I get the same prices quoted as Utumno posted. Perhaps you are just getting a rough deal on your postcode area :(

We are currently half way through our 6 month contract paying 24p/kwhr day and 16p/kwhr off peak rate through our buying group. Contract renews in 3 months - probably will go up a bit after that I fear. I just looked at Octopus and they are showing
Image

Can one get enough power into a 55kw battery between the hours of 00.30 and 04.30?

Can somebody please correct the charge cost calculation I have done below - may be faulty?

say usual nightly recharge 55kw battery from 20% to 80% so charge needed = 60% x 55kw = 33kw

Octopus Energy cost £0.05 x 33kw = £1.65
current supplier cost £0.16 x 33kw = £5.28

thanks Fergus

Glad to hear it! Obviously your daytime rates will double but at least the EV isn’t really costing you any more if you can keep to the 5p charging window.

Assuming you have a 32A home charger running full pelt for 4 hours you can get about 28kW in (32A is about 7.2kW per hour, so 4x7.2=28.8)

So, not quite, but it’s close!

Most you could get would be about 28kwh with 7kw charger which should still be good for 100 miles ish of driving! charging 0030 - 0430

With a standard charger the most you can extract in a 4 hour period = 7.2kW x 4 = 28.8kW, allowing for charging loss of 10% that's 26kWh into your battery.

See if you can get in the Go Faster programme - 5 hours starting at anytime from 20:30 for 5.5p per kWh

I reckon my local Sainsbury's will be fixing their ANPR camera soon then as they have 16 Pod Points free to use for 2 hours but the car park camera has been broken all year! Explains why I can never get on one and going back 5 hours later I see the same Tesla's and other big battery cars getting "free" mileage.

My Go rates will change in February and with a heat pump on all day, not looking forward to it. But having spent £160 on fuel for the ICE Since Saturday for a couple of long journeys it puts the energy bill for home in perspective!

The standard rate though is so expensive.
For me doesn’t make it worth it

As a new customer it’s either those Go rates or you can opt for their Flexible rate which is currently just over 20p thanks to the government price cap (til April)
