On my original 1st Edition the keyless system became erratic sometimes not working. After being at the dealership for a few weeks the Kessey (keyless controller) was replaced and it cured the problems.

Finally, some progress with keylesslessness. The workshop had the car in three times last year where this was investigated. The first time while in for the 400V check and V2 to V3 update, second while in for first service, third in November specifically to look into this issue. They did finally see it for themselves, and said they had passed it to VW for analysis / update / further information, and would get back to me in due course. Quick as a flash, nothing happened.

The car's now been in for over a week because of the 12V battery issue. The first thing they did was change the key battery, because that's the first requirement of VW faulting in this area. No fault. Told them I was happy for the car to stay in for a while, to allow whatever it is which discharges the 12V battery to happen. I got a call after a week, saying they had seen the fault, and were "escalating it to VW". Turns out the fault they'd now seen was keylesslessness, not 12V battery issues. But this time they'd got a bit further than in November, and localised the problem to a module called something like "car care conditioning". Inevitably, there was no stock of this available, and they have raised an urgent request with VW to source one. At some point, this will appear and can be swapped for the faulty unit.

Hi, I've been having the same issue with both sets of keys.

After the first set of keys stopped working, I replaced the battery, but couldn't find a way of doing this without ripping off the black cover, which won't go back on over the buttons now...!

I started using the second key, and when that stopped responding, I thought it was a battery issue.

But even the original set of keys don't always work, despite a new battery.

They sometimes work to unlock the car outside my house, but rarely anywhere else.

I have to unlock and lock the car using the key, with the alarm going off every time. It usually switches off once the key is in the cupholder, and I click unlock. It feels as if the car is somehow asleep/offline.

What solutions did you find that worked? As it is, it has really dampened my spirits :-(

With our car, a major part of the problem was that it wasn't showing up when the car was at the workshop, but more importantly, the car was not logging any fault. To be fair, although there WAS a fault, the fault was that the car wasn't detecting the need to do something, so there was not a failure to do what it was supposed to do in response to that input. The unlock function itself was never faulty.

As with Big277wave, the fix was to replace the Kessy module. Since (inevitably?) there was no UK stock and a spare had to be sourced from Germany, this took a while.

As for what it was in the Kessy module which was causing the fault, I doubt anyone knows or cares - would VW ask for the faulty module to be returned to Germany for investigation? Why spend all that money when sending out a new one cost only a few dozen Euros and the problem is rare?
