New here and confused about 22kw/h charging. I’ve tried plugging in to 22kw/h Podpoint chargers at Tesco and never got above 7kw/h using the standard type 2 cable which came with the car.

Is this because I need a 3 phase cable or something else? I know I won’t get 22 but even if I got 10 or 11kw/h I’ll see be charging 30-40% quicker!

I don’t want to spend £150+ for a cable if I’m literally going to see no benefit.

Try another charging site first before changing cables, The ID.3 is ' supposed ' to come with a 3 phase cable.

I get around 44 miles/hour or around 11kW when I have charged at a 22kW Tesco charger with the standard cable provided with car. I would suspect there is a setting in your car that needs a tweak or restriction on the charge point.

Exactly same here. And at work where we have 22kw ac chargers. Maxes at about 45mph…

This doesn't make sense to me. Are you only getting half the charge rate because the battery is nearly fully charged?

Nope. It’s because AC charging is limited to 11kw on the id3.

It's not an issue. It's how it's engineered.
If you want a faster charge you go DC.

It's almost universal - the only common cars that do 22kw are Zoes and some old Model Ss. There are quite a few cars that offer it as an option. Some cars are limited to 7kw. Most old Leafs only do 3.6kw. 11kw is ok.

The reason is the AC charger is in the car and it costs more to build a 22kw in car charger. The Zoe’s cleverly used the motor windings for this (!!!). Lots of other arguments given here if you’re interested
