My ID.3 has a rattle. It's coming from the area of the rear quarter of the car, perhaps where the rear seat back attaches to the car bodywork. It's a 'soft' rattle, I can imagine it being a wiring loom loose and tapping against the plastic bodywork in that area. It occurs at low speed when the car goes over uneven road surface.

Does anyone else have a similar rattle? Even better, have you found it and cured it?

It's not a rear seatbelt buckle vibrating on the plastic section in-between the rear door and rear seat is it? That's a common one with cars - the buckle gets twisted, touches the plastic with the metal 'lug' and creates a soft rattling noise. Check the belts are 'in line' and noiseless. Even better, insert them into the fasteners to ensure there's no movement at all from any of the 3 rear belts. Same with passenger belt too, to prove or eliminate them from the noise.

My ID3 1st Edition suffered from a rattle and I too thought it was the rear offside seat belt. Finally tracked it down to the rear seat catch recently. Resolved by wrapping the “bolt” with a small piece of paper towel! Now it’s silent at all times.

Thanks for this suggestion. I did check that one out, wedged the belt buckle between the seat and the wheel arch trim, but it didn't make any difference.

I'll try the same trick you used, it may be that. I've tried tugging at the seat back to see if there's any play at the catch but there doesn't seem to be.

I had a Passat which had a similar rattle, and I discovered that the hinge pin at the bottom of the seat back, which should have a nylon or plastic sleeve, was rattling. On investigation, the sleeve was malformed and not doing its job. I got the VW dealership to replace it and the problem went away.

However I don't think my current rattle is the same...

I had this in my first edition. Took it to the dealer and all they did was put some tape on it - hasn't been a problem since.

Try driving with the back seat down to check if it is this the same issue you have. When I did this there was no rattle. Put the seat back up and the rattle came back.

I had exactly the same problem, rear drivers side rattle, and sorted in the same way, tape on the seat catch bolt.

Don't expect VW to do much about a rattle.

I asked them to check my Golf during a service because it had an annoying rattle, got the usual "nothing could be found". Which I get, because it's hard to find a rattle without actually driving it, even then it's very hard to narrow it down.

My ID.3 has a rattle sometimes from the back, will have to check the seatbelt buckles.

Same problem on my ID3 Business, took it to the dealer Martins of Basingstoke, who diagnosed the issue and charged £115 British Pounds to rectify the issue. VW warranty plan refused to cover the failure. Really not acceptable…

I had same issue - soft rattle sound coming from rear seat area driver side. tugged at the rear seat to see if any play in it, there was none. however i then tried putting some tape around the rear seat catch and that solved the problem. rattle gone
