All season tyres recommendation for ID.3 with 18" alloys?
Hi folks, there was a thread about this in the summer (!) but now winter has arrived in the UK I wanted to ask for your opinions.
I'm currently running the ID.3 on 18" alloys with Bridgestone 215/55R18 95T.
Having experienced a few backend twitches on compacted snow and ice over the last couple of days I'm considering getting some all season tyres fitted.
I've checked Kwik Fit and Halfords for options.
Kwik Fit has no compatible all season tyres, just one winter tyre (Continental WinterContact TS 870 P).
Halfords has 5 all season options (Firestone Multiseason 2, Michelin CrossClimate SUV, Sailun(?), Yokohama, and Vredstein) of which the Firestone Multiseason 2 seems to be best reviewed.
But I'm aware that how these tyres run on the ID.3 might be different to test cars used for reviews.
So my question is - can anyone recommend all season tyres they have fitted on their ID.3? Does anyone have all seasons fitted on 18" alloys? I don't really want to get winter tyres and have to switch back and forward, but are all season tyres worth it?
Thanks!

Can't comment on the ID.3, but I love my CrossClimates on my Volvo and will certainly stick another set (well, CC2 anyway) on when they wear out. I would put them on the Born without a second thought, were it not a lease car...and even then, I'd be tempted if it were our only car and we needed it to get around in the winter. Generally, if given the chance, I'll spec all-season tyres by default now, but it's hard to do on a lease car.
This video, comparing worn CCs vs brand new budget tyres is fascinating:

Anything but the Bridgestones will be a huge improvement! Ours were down to 2mm at the back and anything but dry roads were twitchy.
Was a toss up between Michelin CrossClimate 2 and their Primacy4+ summer tyres - both from kwikfit. Going CrossClimate would have meant changing all 4 and it doesn't get cold down south does it... Well that jinxed it and its not been above freezing since, but the primacy tyres have been a huge improvement.
Unless you live in the hills, I doubt winter tyres will be worth it. (cue 6 weeks of continuous snow...). The CrossClimates are considered the pick of all season tyres with serious snow ability, but we're happy with summer tyres and some snow socks for backup.

Go buy some cross climates - then we'll have the warmest winter on record.

Thanks folks, sounds like the Michelin CrossClimate 2 might be the way to go. Only thing is Kwik Fit doesn't seem to have the 18". And Halfords only offers me the Michelin CrossClimate SUV, not the CrossClimate 2. Michelin website says the 215/55R18 99V XL or 215/55R18 95H will fit, but it's confusing as those have different loads / speeds to my current tyres (215/55 R18 95T)? Current tyres are the Bridgestone Turanza Eco by the way.

Either of those would do. H is up to 130mph, exceeding the 118mph rating of T. I'd personally pick the 215/55 R18 95H.paultoon wrote: ↑Wed Dec 14, 2022 5:02 pm Thanks folks, sounds like the Michelin CrossClimate 2 might be the way to go. I think a few places have run out of stock of winter and 4 season tyres due to the sudden cold snap.
I have ordered 4 crossclimate 2 tyres through kwikfit as they were the cheapest at £495.
I have checked again having read they thread and they indeed do not list them now.
Costco are often good for Michelin tyres but they were both out of stock and slightly more expensive when I checked.
Hopefully have some better traction come the weekend.
We have run cross climates before and they are very good tyres all round.

Don't you actually want the Michelin CrossClimate SUV, due to the weight of the car?monkeyhanger wrote: ↑Wed Dec 14, 2022 7:05 pmEither of those would do. Yes I think you're right, everywhere has run out. Let us know how you get on with the new tyres!Idee3 wrote: ↑Wed Dec 14, 2022 9:14 pm I think a few places have run out of stock of winter and 4 season tyres due to the sudden cold snap.

Btw, I got them last year when I had a life pro with the Bridgestones - that were really bad in the cold/damp. I’ve now got a Tour with the Conti’s and not felt the need to change so far.. though did get the back end out a couple of times this week on the greasy roads
From memory the worst thing about the Bridgestones was understeer under braking.

No need -the Bridgestones are 95 weight rating from the factory, you don't need any more than that. Consider also that although a BEV is heavy vs its ICE equivalent, the weight is distributed very evenly across all 4 wheels rather than most ICE cars having way more weight over the front axle than the back (engine, gearbox, clutch, fuel pump etc), so they go for a high rating across all 4 wheels mainly to cover that weight across the front. No harm in going for the higher weight rating, but no need for it, especially if they'e significantly more expensive.Scratch wrote: ↑Thu Dec 15, 2022 6:47 amDon't you actually want the Michelin CrossClimate SUV, due to the weight of the car?monkeyhanger wrote: ↑Wed Dec 14, 2022 7:05 pmEither of those would do.
