good morning everybody.

Just looking for a bit of help or advice for the past week. I’ve had on the screen ‘clean the front parking sensors manoeuvre breaking unavailable’ it pops up randomly while driving no yellow warning lights - sensors are clean, double checked this and they are definitely not working. Came up after the recent cold spell. Wonder if some water is going somewhere and expanded and cracked something? Has anyone else had this error? not banged or bumped the car not gone over anything. Nothing unusual otherwise - just popped up and now won’t go away. I’ve booked it in at the garage for a weeks time for diagnostics I’m just wondering if there is something I could do quickly. I’m disabled and I really rely on the parking sensors at the front so it’s turning into a bit of a nightmare driving any advice or guidance would be appreciated.

Hi billybobb, this is discussed in the thread below viewtopic.php?f=11&t=1932&p=36134#p36134

It seems like the front parking sensors might be (a) exceedingly fragile and (b) exceedingly expensive

Edit: if you're lucky, the issue might be a cold-weather ice/frost ingress thing, but I'd expect the problem would disappear with the warmer weather. Please let us know what the dealer says, this is of interest to many of us on this forum

More often than not parking sensor failure is due to moisture ingress. As your car's still in warranty get your dealer to look ar it.

If a car's not under warranty it's worth giving the front of the sensors a squirt of WD40, it repels water well. It might well work!

Thanks for that - still under warranty thankfully -bit concerned reading the other posts on this I’m not paying for it to be repaired when it’s under warranty and I’ve not done anything to it

Looking forward to seeing what they say after ‘diagnostics’

billybobb, I think my dealer agreed to a warranty repair only because the sensor damage had - apparently - happened when the car was with them. Given that the warning message appeared immediately when I drove it away, the mechanic should have noted and reported it, but I naively assumed it was an artefact/glitch from the 2.4 update and that an infotainment reset or ignition off/on cycle would cure it (and it was rapidly evident that, er, no luck, this problem was here to stay)

To be fair, when the car was repaired, the service tech showed me the 'damaged' sensor and indeed there was a tiny, tiny chip in the centre, of the sort you might expect from stone impact, hence my comment about the sensor being fragile. He added that it wasn't a rare occurrence and that 'accidental damage' was not covered by the warranty

Hello, I’m wondering if there’s any update on this? I have the same issue with my rear parking sensors, however my warranty ran out in October 😢

Rear parking sensors should be less likely to suffer stone damage, so the fault might be 'something else' but even then, out of warranty, either way you'll end up paying. I certainly wouldn't take it to my local stealership at their prices and so-so customer service - see if there's an independent VW specialist in your locality

I have just taken my ID3 to the dealer to investigate a similar fault. It started with a ‘please clean’ the left and right parking sensors message (they were spotless and undamaged) followed by the progressive failure of the rear sensors, and finally the front sensors too. This meant that parking menu and manoeuvre braking were unavailable. My suspicion is that there is some kind of control unit issue as I think it unlikely that all the sensors would fail individually over a couple of weeks. The dealer has now had the car for 2 days and is ‘taking advice’ from VW.
Anyone had anything similar?

I had the same thing having just bought a second hand ID3, right from driving away from dealership. I assumed it needed to clean the sensors but when I looked at it I could see the scratch in the sensor. The dealership was lookers Vauxhall and said I needed to send to VW cus of warranty but this forum had said it’s not covered so I insisted they look at it. They shd be the ones paying they sold me a defective car!

I'm having the same warning. The fronts are still ok but the rears are not.

It's booked in with the local dealer in two weeks time (along with first service (2 year), software update and battery recall check 😬).

Got a feeling the I'm going to be well acquainted with the courtesy car!
