It's been advertised that the ID.3 will get an updated 12.9 infotainment system (along with backlit volume slider controls) some time in mid-2024 for the UK market. Has anyone read or come across evidence whether other markets (ie in Germany). have already received the bigger infotainment units in recently delivered cars? The Volkswagen DE site doesn't really give away this information or option whilst configuring an ID.3.

I think LHD cars already have the larger screen in the recent face-lift models. The reason RHD cars still have the smaller screen is due to the positioning of the light/heated screen combo switch. I'm not sure about the illuminated sliders.

The larger screen with backlit controls haven't been officially listed in any markets that I can see - the larger screen in lhd drive markets is around but doesn't have the backlit - this is the one that fouls the lighting control so isn't coming to the UK.

Again I've not been able to confirm it anywhere apart from mentions in YouTube reviews by Battery Life Chris, Autogefuhl and Electrifying. There are also rumours about the haptic steering wheel change.

I think the new screen will come with the heating controls like the ID.7 so the european configurator for the ID.7 might give an indication of the new layout, or might not. (I just looked at VW Germany and that looks like the new screen which I also think arrives with the new tesla style heating controls).

Alistair.
PS : Reason I'm interested is to plan my next ID.3 - I'm hoping for a GTX and would be waiting until these changes come through.

Thanks AlistairL. With the infotainment system being integral to so much of the experience a car delivers these days, this will hopefully improve the driving experience along with fixing common grumbles with the UI. I'm also in the process of planning my next upgrade / purchase. The 2023 facelift is tempting, especially the Launch Edition 3. Given the impending improvements in the 2024 facelift, and the big drops in residual value of all EV's at the moment, it makes sense to wait until this more 'complete' version of the ID.3 comes out next year.

I'm getting on very well with mine - whether I was prewarned or the new hardware makes a difference I don't know - I got my car with 3.2.0 and H30 Hardware and it's all been workable.

The Munich motor show is very soon, VW might well announce stuff there.
Skoda have announced an Enyaq 85 that comes with the new motor from the ID7, the new infotainment screen (with backlit sliders) and software 4.0. Their announcement also says that all models built from later this year will come with software 4.0. I'm pretty sure this will also mean the new infotainment unit as, at least in the ID7, the software looks very different so might struggle to work on the old unit.
The VW website said a while ago if you went on the ID4/5 configurator that they were reviewing the power train options so you might not get exactly what you ordered, and more recently some options (eg GTX) have gone completely. So pretty sure they will see similar motor changes to the Enyaq. Battery Life has also said the ID3 GTX will have the same updated rear motor, which makes sense (it's about 280bhp). My guess would be that like ID7 and Enyaq, other new build cars will get the new infotainment package when the new motor comes along.

P.S. the 12" unit that is already available looks no different from the 10" unit. I couldn't tell the difference when I used one in an ID4, you would need to see them side by side. Certainly not really worth an upgrade. The new system, as seen in the ID7, is a much bigger change.

When I test drove the Cupra Born, many moons ago, I actually thought the 12inch screen was too big. Or maybe I’ve just got used to the 10inch in my ID3, which is fine for me.

I also found the 12" screen to be a bit oversized, I really don't know what the obsession with giant touch screens are, but each to their own.

Unless they have changed it, the info I saw suggested that the 12" is the same resolution as the 10" anyway.

Cupra Born owner here and had an ID3 for 2 years prior to that. I find the bigger screen easier to use, it's more colourful and I think a little easier getting around the menus but the difference is not massive and it's probably what you get used to. Will be interesting to see the Software 4.0 version.............Will it bring VW Software from at best OK/average to a Good rating?

So the ID.3 2024 facelift is now live on the UK VW website. Comes in 4 trims as the Essential, Essential Match, Pro S Essential and Pro S Match. Tempted by the Pro S Match, and will likely place an order for this soon.

I have a question: one feature I'm interested is in the Area View. I can see this feature listed on the cheapest trim if I select the Assistance Pack Plus, but this feature is not listed on any other trim under any of the additional on packs. It's strange that the least expensive trim has this option, but the more expensive trims don't?
