Winter range
Hey guys - interested to know what kind of drop off people are getting.
I’m on a 58KW ID3 Pro. Range in summer was easily 260miles. Ive done some longer trips over Christmas and even with heaters off and averaging 60MPH, wasn’t getting more than 200. Temperature was 8-10degrees
Just wondering if that’s normal…?

Hello - we have the same car and live close to the North East border with Scotland At 80% in the winter we get 180 miles, and around 200 for 100%. In the summer 80% is around 240 and 100% is 260. Sorry to quote in kms, but this is my first Winter, was getting 363 during summer at 80% charge, only getting 280/290 before switching the heating on, so real world is less, 20% drop off seems right though.
Given that you're down 20% on charge and down another 20% for winter, it puts the 421km max into some perspective.

100% GOM is saying 200 miles this time of year, winter around 0c.

Speed, temperature, wind, use of energy sapping devices (wipers, lights, heating) all impact range. In winter anything 180-220 is possible, depending on situations.

I managed 260 from bristol to Derby and bank in 8 degree temps, was a very cold journey as no heating on 58kw battery

3rd id winter here - my rule of thumb is 75% of summer range.
In winter - however - it’s far more variable. Cabin heater usage, battery temp, weather conditions (rain/snow/wibd) all vary more than in Summer - which makes the GOM even more inconsistent!
For example - in summer short journeys (less than 10 miles) are all consistently in the low 4’s for me. In Winter - range from 2 - 3.5…

First winter with the car for me with my ID.3 Max Pro Perf. In summer we were easily in the 260 mile range, but after taking the car down to the Bicester Scramble last weekend, I don't think we would have been getting much more than about 180 miles on a full charge - average efficiency on last weeks run (on single & dual-carriageway A roads - ambient air temps between -1 and 3 degrees Celsius) was between 17-18 miles per 10% of SoC even with cabin pre-conditioning - cabin temp set to 20 degrees, heated seats & steering wheel switched off.

Had a longish journey today, Return journey of about 170 miles to Glasgow. I charged to 100% and arrived with 50%. Charged to 80% whilst we had lunch and got home with 30% remaining. Heating at 22c, outside temp -1c. Drove normally, so it would seem the GOM of 3m/kWh is about right. It is surprising what difference a few degrees can make to the range.

I have seen similar figures here, around a 20% drop off in these colder days. I did Midlands to Torquay at the start of the year (M5) which in summer is an easy run with juice left over, but we had to stop at Cullompton ionity this time round with only a few% remaining and a tortoise on the dash. Summer is 4.3kWh ish and Winter is more like 3.4kWh. Not unexpected, but it does add some fun to the journey planning.

Just a thought/question... I use B mode most of the time as I like the feel of the car and the one-foot lazy driving. My wife uses D, which I find a bit too pokey Is there a winter benefit of D over B or B over D?

I find the brakes to be lacking in D mode, pretty scary going from B to D after a while, feels like the car isn't going to stop.

That’s because it isn’t going to stop - it’s coasting. To stop in D mode, use the brake. The only time you’ll get regenerative braking in D mode is;
- when going downhill, it aims to maintain speed
- when using ACC and slower vehicle in front
- when using speed limit assist or eco assist

In D mode it will also slow down at junctions without you pressing the brake and regen then too...
Personally the only difference in brake pedal feel between the two is that when you let go of the accelerator in B you start to slow before you press the brake - which makes the braking process feel different.
Early on in the ID3 life there was alot of debate about which was more efficient etc.. it became pretty clear after a while and alot of experimenting by people on this forum that there was next to no difference between the two in terms of amounts of regen. Its all software that regens as much as it can and gives you a bit of a one pedal driving feel with B, or something more like an ICE experience in D.
