It's over a week since stories appeared in the Guardian and Observer about vulnerabilities of car wireless security systems:
<https://www.theguardian.com/money/2024/ ... -arms-race>
<https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/202 ... decade-ago>

VW wasn't mentioned. Is this because the UWB technology used by the keys is immune to the methods used to steal cars made by Hyundai and Kia?

The articles also report a very different vulnerability: the diagnostic port fitted to the majority of cars (without pointing out that this is a very different aspect of security). The claim is that this can be used "to program a new key linked to the vehicle". Does anyone with an OBD11 have a view on that?

So - ID3 keys have a motion sensor in them - so if left still for a few min, they 'switch off' making a relay type theft impossible. No need for key pouches/farraday cage etc..

WRT OBD hacks - I've not heard of any on the ID range... hopefully not famous last words!

I know KIA/Hyundai have proven to be vulnerable to devices that brute force the key codes (because Hyundai/Kia were daft enough not to implement enough security - they have a number of fixed characters/digits in the code which makes if far easier to crack).
